God Didn't Bring You This Far To Leave You

By DS Dennis W. Miller

Do you simply need a word of encouragement right now? During the month of March eleven years ago, Rachel and I were in southern California and we visited Saddleback Community Church. We attended their early Saturday evening service at 4:30 p.m. and had to sit in the balcony because the place was packed. Even though we were surrounded by around 4000 people that evening, I felt that Rick Warren was speaking directly to me. By the close of that service, I was convinced that God had me travel 2,200 miles to hear Rick’s message of finding encouragement in difficult circumstances. I had to get away from the noise of my every-day life to hear the Holy Spirit speak to me. I recall Rick Warren ending his message with my favorite Bible verse that I want to share with you. Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Following Rick’s message, a man sang Steve Green’s song that is based on the verse. When he sang, God broke me and I shed a few tears of joy. Here are the words:

If the struggle you're facing is slowly replacing your hope with despair
Or the process is long and you're losing your song in the night
You can be sure that the Lord has His hand on you
Safe and secure He will never abandon you
You are His treasure and He finds His pleasure in you

He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you

So, I just wanted to say this word of encouragement: “God who started the work will be faithful to complete it in you.” Don’t give up or give in! You are not alone. Keep up the good work of faith.
